Swapping Pesos for Pounds
Our second major, international recruit over the summer has been this inspirational South American.
We are delighted to welcome Santiago Zambrano Varela to the S’PORT for its 2020-21 volleyball season as the assembled squad continues to strengthen. The talent spotting of Coach Rafal, facilitated this transfer in conjunction with Chairman, Adrian.
Santiago is a super enthusiastic setter and has a personality that I’m sure will be welcomed by our Club, its members and proud supporters.
Men’s Club Captain, Adam who has witnessed his video performances has said about Santiago: “Our team is going to be unreal” about our securing another new signing with ambitious aspirations in the NVL. One final international appointment and we commence intensive training.
Santiago has huge popularity back home as witnessed by the increased visitors to our social media pages. The indigenous publicity on the move has said:
“From Ibagué to the World, the first Tolima player to play for a volleyball team in Europe. His extensive career in Local and National volleyball and his participation in the Tolima Volleyball Team made the English Club interested in having the services of the talented Tolima player. 8 years in the Tolima select side, several University and Intercollegiate tournaments with the San Simón School and the University of Ibagué; National tournaments with the Pinaos Club, are the record of the athlete who was also Captain of the Tolima National Team in the 2015 National Games. Finally, he achieved his goal, his signing was thanks to an offer from the Stockport Club, a Team in the first division of volleyball in England that seeks to ascend to the Super League, the highest category of sport in that Country. The Team has French, Polish and obviously English players, Santiago is to be the only Latin American, who will be competing with them this Season”.
