Patryk’s Story

The final overseas recruit to the S’PORT for 2020-2021 is Patryk Walcza. We are delighted by his joining the squad this Year. Previous clubs have included: AZS Częstochowa, KS Stal Grudziądz and Autonomiczne Stowarzyszenie Piłki Siatkowej NAT Ostrołęka.  Along with Marcin Mols, he has arrived in UK before the announcement of cessation of NVL for this Season.  Already, he has been made to feel welcome and will be joined by Fiance, Monika, shortly.  We caught up with Patryk and he now shares his story.

“My adventure with volleyball began when I was 10 years old. My Dad used to take me to volleyball matches. They let me participate in the warm-ups, but after the first whistle, I turned into a fan. Over time, day by day, I felt that volleyball was the only thing I wanted to do in my life.

The next stage was attending extra-curricular activities and volleyball training for students. With time, I started going to school tournaments. At the Nationals Tournament, I got an offer to attend the sports championship school in Piła, which was and is one of the best in Poland. I would like to thank the Coach, Tomasz Aszemberg, for reaching out to me.

I have a hard time remembering my first year at School, I had to change my lifestyle and combine two training sessions a day with learning. Now I know that it was a big discipline lesson for me at the right time.  My first club in the senior category was Al Caudry in France. The league was difficult, then it was showing my shortcomings. Thanks to that, I could improve my technique and speed. To this day, I remember hard workouts in the gym. The next 4 years I played in the Polish League.

Then I was very interested in the offer to play for the club in Stockport. I had a conversation with the Coach and the Club President.  It turned out that we understand each other well and have a common goal. I want to win the English Leagues and one day play in European Cups. I can’t wait until we can train in the hall again and play the first game for the S’PORT. Currently, we have to train at home or outdoors. I am hopeful, I hope that after the New Year everything will be back to normal and we can finally start playing.”
